Trapped Words imagines the British Library gallery transformed into a site- specific installation. The laser cut paper installation explores the association between quick exchanges in conversations and the profound effects these words have on us. Trapped Words considers the major theme of repetition within The Kite Runner, how speech, memory and the mind play a role in an individual’s actions.
The layers of typography featured in the Trapped Words installation are excerpts from the book. These phrases are ingrained conversations that the novels protagonist, Amir, reiterates throughout the entirety of the story. The trapped spaces created by the layers of typography show how confinement can be caused by the intangible.
